Since the onset of the conflict in Ukraine, countless innocent lives have been thrown into chaos. At Tikva UK, we stand as a beacon of hope for the most vulnerable—children who have known nothing but poverty, neglect, and abuse. When the war began, our mission became more urgent than ever. We evacuated most of our community from Ukraine, providing safe haven and care for orphaned and at-risk children. Now, our work continues in new ways as we establish homes, schools, and a nurturing environment for these children who have already endured too much. At Tikva UK, we stand by each other like family, offering support and care just like any family would and ensuring no one faces life’s challenges alone.

Karina and Igor have been married for three years. A ‘Tikva couple’,they met as adults when they were both volunteering for Tikva. Karina, born in Odessa, studied and later taught Hebrew at the Tikva school. Igor, from Transnistria, joined the Tikva boys’ home at 13 due to difficult family circumstances. Together, the young couple emigrated to Israel. Tikva remains at the heart of their lives, offering ongoing support and a strong sense of community.
N, 12, was brought to Tikva at the tender age of 3 months. His alcoholic mother had abandoned him, leaving neighbours to care for him. After admitting she didn’t want him, and threatening to harm him, his aunt brought him to Tikva to be cared for. Tikva brought in professionals to help with N’s care, including psychologists and medical personnel. When the war broke out in 2022, N was safely evacuated to Romania. Now thriving, N enjoys biking, skating, and music. Today, Tikva is the only family he knows.

Maya was born in 1937 in Odessa. During WWII, she, her mother, and brother evacuated to Uzbekistan, but her father and other relatives perished. After 1991, Maya reconnected with her faith, becoming active in the Jewish community. Tikva provided her with support, meals, and a sense of belonging. When the recent conflict broke out, she was unable to evacuate due to her fragile health. Yet, she was not left alone. Tikva’s elderly care service ensures that Maya receives hot meals, essential medication, and regular check-ins. Despite the dangers around her, Maya knows she has a lifeline, thanks to Tikva’s unwavering support.
