It is with great sadness to share news of another devastating drone strike. On Thursday night, the Tikva Kindergarten in Odesa suffered a direct hit.
This marks the third time in four months that Tikva sites have been struck amid the ongoing war. This time, it was our kindergarten, a place where young children are cared for every day.
Thankfully, the strike occurred overnight while the building was empty
and no one was harmed. However, the damage is extensive leaving the nursery out of bounds: the roof has been severely impacted, causing significant internal destruction, including damaged rooms and shattered windows.
Since the beginning of the war, Tikva has evacuated more than 4,760 p
eople to safety, including 1,047 Tikva children, alumni and elderly community members who are now in Tikva’s care in Romania.
We currently have over 200 children in our care in Odesa, many of whom, for a range of complex reasons, could not be evacuated. Our team is working tirelessly to move them out of danger and into safety with our refugee community in Bucharest. However, this remains an extremely challenging process due to the complicated legal and personal circumstances surrounding each child.
